The Right Vendors for the Job
So he finally popped the question.
He dropped to one knee, slid that glorious gem onto your finger, asked you to be the one and you said ‘YEAHH!’
Now the real work begins.
There’s a seemingly enormous mountain of tasks now before you such as picking out a wedding dress, sampling cakes, venue shopping, decorations for said venue, bridesmaid dresses, food for your guests, selecting a DJ…and we haven’t even gotten to the best part.
Your photo and video team!
When shopping for vendors, many brides often simply pick and choose vendors based on price point and not so much based what I’d like to briefly discuss.
The Experience of a Team
Just like how a sporting team practices together so on game day they’re a well-oiled machine and are familiar with the plays, the same is true when you hire vendors who have experience working together with other vendors.
For example, as a videographer I’ve had the opportunity to work with literally dozens of different wedding photographers over the years. Most of them are great at what they do but every so often, you come across an exceptional few who you just click with.
These are the ones who understand what the other person needs and as such, are pleasant to work with. They move with you so you can get your shots, communicate well with you and the other vendors and make sure the other person is getting everything they need to make the bride happy. Having a team who are experienced in working together makes the wedding day run so much more smoothly for all involved.
When selecting your vendors, ask them if they have other vendors they prefer to work with. Personally, I can list off photographers, DJs, planners, caterers, venues, etc. that I’ve had the privilege to work with. Something I tell my brides and their families is that if I refer them to someone, it’s not for my benefit. It’s all for theirs.
Having a DJ who communicates well with the photo and video team so we’re on the same page is critical to a wedding. Along the same lines, having a planner/coordinator who is present in the midst of the chaos but not an overbearing taskmaster is highly desired to make things continually flow as the day progresses.
Ask yourself this: Would you rather save a few dollars and hire vendors who’ve never worked together before and risk your night turning into an unorganized mess? Or would you rather have a team of vendors who are proficient in how the others operate so you can have an overall enjoyable wedding experience?
This is DOUBLY important for photographers and videographers. As we’re the ones tasked with documenting and preserving the memories of your wedding day, having a team you can trust to do just that and not start throwing punches at each other (ask me how I know) is key. When working with photographers I have experience with, I know what they want and how they go about getting it. As such, I work with them and vice versa as they’re wanting to make sure I have the shots I need as well.
In a nutshell, having a team of vendors who are experienced in working together will make your wedding day much more enjoyable for all in attendance.
I hope this helps! If you have any questions or are looking for the perfect vendors for your wedding, don’t hesitate to reach out!
